Introductions

I would like to imagine that writing a new song is kind of like going on a blind date. I think I’ve been on two dates in my lifetime, neither of them blind, so I really don’t know if it’s accurate. Let’s say that sometimes writing is awkward in the beginning, much like that date. It’s the first time you’ve ever met this [person] and have no idea what to expect. You start chatting with chord progressions that might fit, but others may leave you looking around wondering what you’re really doing at the table. With time, you might arrive at something you have in common, something that strikes you as interesting, something worth pursuing. So you follow it. Often times your opinion of the [person] changes and you find yourself discussing an idea you didn’t even intend to talk about. And that conversation becomes something beautiful. You might even leave having made a new friend.

The opposite could also be true, and the date could go horribly…enough to make you get up and walk out. Let’s hope you learned something from it and didn’t smash your instrument in the process. 🙂
